Bassinets (+Mini cribs!)
A favorite in the UK, the SnuzPod baby bassinet.
We love how it rocks, how we can take down one side to reach for baby in the night, and how well it transports around the house
In the beginning, when your baby is a newborn, you want her as close to you as possible during the night. This is why a bassinet, as short-lived as it is in your home is key. You can put it next to your bed and make it a bit easier to get up during the night feedings. Our absolute favorite bassinet is the SnuzPod. Originally from the UK, the brand has just been approved for sale in the US in 2023. The Snuz can be attached to your bed as a bedside sleeper, has a bassinet that lifts off the base for you to take around the house, and is easy to rock back and forth to help settle a crying little one. It is very breathable and has a machine-washable liner. We love it!
The Snoo Bassinet is legendary and many, many parents swear by it. “SNOO is a responsive bassinet that adds sleep by responding to a baby's cries with white noise and motion to soothe fussing.” It is expensive and many parents rent it for the first 3-4 months of a baby’s life.
The Babyletto Origami Mini Crib has a small footprint, ingenious design which allows it to be folded up when not in use, and is Greenguard certified Gold for low emissions.
Some mama’s skip the bassinet and get a mini crib instead. The nice thing about a mini crib is that it will last a lot longer since it safely sleep bigger babies and babies that are beginning to roll over and sit up (many bassinets are unsafe to use when babies begin to roll over and sit). If you want to do the same, we recommend the Babyletto Origami Mini Crib. It has a simple design with cute colors and it can be folded up when not in use which is great for leaving at the grandparents’ house or for occasional use in another part of the home. We paired our Origami Mini crib with the Newton Mini Crib Mattress (100% breathable and Greenguard Gold Certified) and bought two of their muslin 100% cotton mini crib sheets.
